Auto Execs Look Under Automobile Hood

1936 — Left to right: Charles F. Kettering, Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., and Nicholas Dreystadt, President of Cadillac Motor Car, looking over the first self starter. Kettering is the man who invented the self-starter for automobiles. Anyone who remembers the old method of cranking a car will be present in spirit at the tribute to the autoists’ best friend. The luncheon marked the 25th anniversary of the invention by Kettering in 1911. — Image by © Bettmann/CORBIS
